Six events held across four counties will feature national guest speakers, caregiver panels, and a virtual advance care planning workshop
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Aug. 25, 2026 – Family caregivers across the Lowcountry can soon receive free education and support through the Empowering Caregiver Series beginning September 15.
Presented by MiraSol Health and funded by the Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island, the series has expanded from four sessions in its first year to six sessions running from September 2026 through January 2027. Events will be held throughout Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties, including one virtual session available to family caregivers in any location.
The series will address different aspects of the caregiving experience, from adjusting to a new role and managing stress to preparing for end-of-life decisions and navigating grief. The six events will include presentations from nationally recognized speakers, discussions with local caregivers and a virtual advance care planning workshop.
The series comes as more South Carolinians take on caregiving responsibilities. An estimated 1.09 million residents, or about 1 in 4 adults, provide care for a family member or friend with a disability or complex medical condition, according to the South Carolina Department on Aging.

This series is about giving them a place to be heard, to connect with others who understand what they’re going through, and to find strength and support for themselves. Above all, we want every caregiver to know they do not have to carry this journey alone. Their community is here for them.”

- Sept. 15 – What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Caregiver | 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Bluffton Public Library | 120 Palmetto Way
- Oct. 7 – Care for the Caregiver: Finding Joy, Strength and Resilience | 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Palmetto Electric | 1 Cooperative Way
- Nov. 3 – What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Caregiver | 6-8 p.m. at Walterboro Wildlife Center | 100 S Jefferies Blvd.
- Nov. 17– Understanding the Final Chapter: What Every Caregiver Should Know | Virtually | Link sent upon registration
- Dec. 1 – Your Voice, Your Wishes: A Guided Five Wishes Workshop | 5-8 p.m. at Stanley Arts Center | 105 Lee Ave.
- Jan. 19, 2027 – Finding Your Strength Through Caregiving, Grief and Healing | Time and location to be announced
Caregivers and loved ones may attend one session or the full series. All sessions are free and open to all family caregivers in our community, regardless of whether their loved ones receive care from MiraSol Health.
